Local Government Interns

What is the Local Government Intern Program?

“Learning about civic involvement through hands-on experiences.”

  • Learn about county government and how it works and what services it offers.
  • Learn how to make a difference in your community.
  • Designed for high school juniors and seniors in Madison County Schools.

Why Participate?

  • Adults, as well as young people, feel alienated from government. This program will help you feel more connected.
  • Research shows that youth involved in this type of learning experiences adopt a more positive attitude towards government. This will help you feel more interested in government.
  • You get to interact with county supervisors, county departments, the judges and courts, and visit interesting places in the county.

What Do Past Participants Say?

  • I look at my community from a whole new perspective.
  • I recognize the wide range of services that the county provides.
  • I will participate in government because I know that I can make a difference.
  • I am more aware of government and it’s function.
  • I plan to register to vote and be an informed voter.
  • I am seriously considering a profession in government and political science.
  • I had fun and I looked at government first hand.
